Road Trip To Leh

There are few holiday destinations which are always running on your mind, you wouldn’t want to think twice before setting out for such destinations given a chance. Road Trip to Leh is one such holiday we all would love to take at least once in a lifetime. Road Trip to Leh is fun, frolic, and adventure at the same time. You can challenge your fitness goals and come out of your comfort zone while experiencing this unforgettable Road Trip to Leh.

Day 1 ( Delhi To Nalagarh) – 320 KM in approx. 5 hrs.

We Started the drive from Delhi to reach Nalagarh via Karnal, Ambala, and Pinjore. Checked in at Nalagarh Fort hotel. The evening was free to relax and roam around this beautiful and unique heritage property.

Day 2 (Nalagarh To Manali) – 275 Km in approx. 7 hrs.

Started our drive towards Manali Post breakfast and the route was Swarghat the entry to Himachal from this side.Then reach Bilaspur, Mandi, Kullu, and Manali.The Drive up to Bilaspur is a bit boring as you won’t find many stations on the road side. However after Bilaspur, one can enjoy the beauty of the drive. On reaching Bilaspur you get a glimpse of the artificial lake Gobind Sagar while u continue your drive  The stretch up to Mandi will be as in plains though you will get to see beautiful rivers and villages en-route. you can have your Lunch at Bilaspur or Mandi.One can find very good eating options by the road side. continue the journey via Pandoh and reached  Kullu and then Manali by late eve. We were really mesmerized on seeing the beauty of the Kullu valley as we entered it.  And reaching Manali was coming close to nature some more.At Manali, we stayed at beautiful Green Cottages 3 Km before Mall Road.

Day 3 ( Manali To Jispa) – Via Rohtang Pass – 140Km in approx.6 hrs.

Today we had to make an early start as the drive is going to be long and little tiring.It is important to start at 4 in order to avoid the tourist traffic up to Rohtang. On leaving Manali as you climb up the road towards Rohtang your heart will skip a beat seeing the beautiful lush green forests and landscapes around. Your heart will sing as you look out of the windows soaking in the beauty of nature. Once you cross Rohtang at a height of 13050 feet you will find it very dry and cold there. It is surrounded by high mountains from all the sides, and Spiti and Chandra rivers flow in this region. The barren landscapes and sparse vegetation give a charm to the travelers to look at. Have Lunch at the famous Koksar Dhaba and continue your drive towards Jispa after a quick stop for refueling at Tandi. Over night at Padma lodge or Hotel Ibex Jispa.

Day 4  (Jispa To Leh) – 330Km in approx. 10hrs.

After a good night rest, we started at 5 am next day. Now it was going to be a long drive on the higher altitudes. The road heading towards the Baralacha pass(16049 feet) are raw and covered by the high Himalayas from all sides.Pang valley and Tanglangla Pass (17585 feet above sea level) beckons you forward.From Jispa you drive along the Bhaga river and towards the Baralacha pass.This seems another world altogether.Stop for Lunch at Pang and reach Leh by late evening. Overnight in any of the pre booked a hotel at Leh. As there are many good options for a stay here.

Day 5 LEH

It is time to give your mind and body the much-needed break. Spend a relaxing day here at Leh, known as the roof of the world. Visit the Shanti stupa, an imposing structure built on a hill. and enjoy the bird’s eye view of Leh from here.Also check out the relatively newly built Shankar Monastery, which is associated with the Spituk Monastery. Rest overnight at Leh.

Day 6 Pangong Lake- 10 hrs.

Start early at 5  and take along the packed breakfast for the drive to Pangong Lake. situated at an altitude of 14,270 feet above the sea level towards the northeast of Leh. En route stop at the Thiksey monastery for early morning prayers. You will just find extreme mountain ranges beyond the Thiksey village.

Changla pass is the next stop which is 17,350 feet which could test one’s lungs, for the lack of oxygen.continue the drive until you reach the Pangong lake, a tourist paradise and of great geological importance. Part of the lake runs through the Indo- Chinese border. Enjoy your lunch by the blue waters of the lake. start driving back to Leh and reach the hotel by late evening.

Day 7   Nubra Valley 120km in 4 hrs. 

After breakfast start driving towards Nubra valley situated in the North of Leh. at above 10,000 feet above the sea level.The road, which climbs up the Khardung La, at approx. 18,380 feet is believed to be the highest motorable road in the world. You reach the Khardung village after crossing the pass. You can have your lunch at Khalser and cross Deskit – the main village of Nubra valley. spend the night in the organic camps.

Day 8 start your journey back 

One can take the road trip back to Delhi Via Kargil 230 km from Leh. Enroute visit Pathar Sahib gurdwara and stop at the magnetic hill. AT magnetic hill you can stop the ignition and still move up the hill. Have lunch at Mulbek village. Overnight in Kargil.

Day 9 Kargil- Srinagar

Early morning leave for Srinagar crossing Zozilla pass at Drass valley, the second coldest inhabited place in the world. Stop at Sonemarg for lunch and take your final drive towards Srinagar.

You can cut short your trip by taking a flight back to Delhi from Srinagar if you are too tired of all the travel all this while else you can continue your road trip Via Amritsar to Delhi back.

Day  10 Srinagar 

Sightseeing at Srinagar, enjoy the shikara ride on the Dal lake and see the floating vegetable gardens. Also see Nishant Bagh, Shankaracharya temple and shop for local goods at Lal Chowk market.

Day 11 Srinagar to Amritsar 460km -9 hrs.

Start early morning for a long drive to Amritsar. Stop for lunch at the beautiful hill station of Patnitop.

Day 12 Amritsar Sightseeing

After breakfast visit the Golden Temple here and the Jallianwala Bagh. And in the afternoon start your drive towards Delhi back.
